Indian Ocean Safaris

Experience the warm water & empty beaches of the East African Coast.

“The continent is too large to describe. It is a veritable ocean, a separate planet, a varied, immensely rich cosmos. Only with the greatest simplification, for the sake of convenience, can we say ‘Africa’. In reality, except as a geographical appellation, Africa does not exist.”

- Ryszard Kapuściński (Polish journalist, photographer, poet and author)

Cheers on a sunset dhow cruise.

Traditional sailing dhow boats are common off the east coast of Africa and are made from an African teak wood. They represent an era of the ancient spice trade and are still holdovers from a past generation.

A Coastal Paradise With Endless White Sand Beaches.

There is an allure here, a sense of magnetism that draws us to the East African coast.

If it weren’t so peaceful and luxurious and real, it would sound too good to be true. White sandy beaches. Crystal clear blue water. Palm trees and coconuts and gin and tonics and swimming pools. But this is the glamorous reality of East African beaches.

A boat ride on the Indian Ocean can take you to marine parks, dolphin sightings, and deep-sea fishing. A walk out to the reef at low tide leads to plunge pools full of vibrant sea life. Off the Kenyan and Tanzanian coasts, a coral reef no farther than two kilometers away from the shore creates a barrier, keeping large sea life like sharks out and making even the highest tides fairly mild compared to many other beaches. This means that activities like surfing are less possible, but it makes the water much safer and more accessible to people of all ages and swimming levels.

Windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and scuba diving are just a few of the possible activities. If you visit Lamu or Zanzibar, you’ll have the chance to dive into the fascinating history of their old towns, which are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. But if your idea of a beach vacation is enjoying a good book and a cold drink, there is no shortage of places to lounge comfortably with an excellent view.

Wildland Collective would be thrilled to take you to one of our many destinations on the Kenyan and Tanzanian coasts. Whether you’re interested in a beachfront location in the quiet town of Kilifi or a rooftop villa on Shela Beach in Lamu, we can guarantee that the fresh seafood, laid-back coastal feel, and balmy weather will leave you wanting to come back for more.

Camps & lodges

Located on Diani Beach on Kenya’s south coast, these three unique luxury beachfront villas, each with its own swimming pool and staff, are the ultimate destinations for those who love the sunshine.

This highlight from our “weekend in Lamu” story is one of many cool private houses to stay in the Lamu Archipelago of Northern Kenya.

Located on on Kenya’s North coast in historic Shela Beach, the Moon Houses are a stunning setup for a family of mixed sizes. Several distinct houses are set right in the heart of Shela Beach.

This lovely boutique setup in world-famous Zanzibar offers incredible service, beautiful views, and some of the best food we’ve ever tasted.
